Who's Who

 

CHING VALDES-ARAN (Aying) was born in San Nicolas, a small town in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines and moved to New York in the mid-60s. Acting credits include Medea, Philoktetes, Athena, Klytemenestra, Jocasta, Agave, Titania, Lady Macbeth, Empress of China, Bernarda Alba, Mother Courage, Olan, Imelda Marcos, among many others. She has appeared in many movies and numerous indie films, including Sex in the City 1 and Across the Universe. She has guest starred in the TV shows Ugly Betty, Nurse Jackie, Rescue Me, Equalizer and Law and Order CI.
For seven years Ching was director/artist-in-residence as La Mama E.T.C. She has directed in NYC, regionally and internationally. She is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab.
Ching received an OBIE Award for her performance in Ma-Yi Theater production of Flipzoids. She is the recipient of the prestigious FOX Foundation Fellowship. Other awards include: Spencer Cherashore Award, Charles Bowden Award, Ma-Yi Award for Artistic Excellence, MAP Rockefeller Grant, Asian Cultural Council Writing Fellowship. As an emerging visual artist, Ching had her first solo art exhibit at Sining Kamalig in Quezon City and showed in group shows at La Mama Galleria, Hartley House and The Druids in New York City.

TINA CHILIP
(Vangie) Tina Chilip is thrilled to be making her Ma-Yi debut. Most recently, she appeared in M. Butterfly at The Guthrie Theater. She has previously worked with Loy in the Manila production of Golden Child (Cultural Center of the Philippines). New York credits include: The Joy Luck Club (Pan Asian Rep); Sweet Karma (Immigrants Theater Project); and For Want of a Shoe (Manhattan Theater Source). Regional credits include: Yellow Face and Far East (TheatreWorks); After the War (u/s, American Conservatory Theatre); A Christmas Carol and Romeo and Juliet (Trinity Rep); and Hamlet and 1001 Arabian Nights (Marin Shakespeare Company). She received her MFA from the Brown/Trinity Consortium.
